3 Holiday Recap. And Then Some.
As busy as I’ve been the past few weeks, the progressive recap of everything I’ve been up to for the past few months isn’t gonna happen…sooooooo, here’s the recap all in one, convenient post. Lucky you :) As we transitioned to fall and Halloween was approaching, I decided to make some spooky treats: The one with the knife was my favorite…I’m going to...

Not Just Any Cookie...
Since it’s been a while since I “tumblr’d” last, I figured I’d resurface with my most recent obsession and slowly fill you in on what I’ve been up to within the next few days… What do you do when you are craving 2 different types of cookies?  You mash ‘em together…but in a pretty way.  I heart chocolate chip cookies along with the occasional...

We Eat What We Like!!
By popular demand, I finally broke down and decided to work cereal into my cupcakes.  Now mind you, I haven’t eaten these particular cereals in literally 2 decades…*sigh* decades (with an “s”)….Anyways, I just remembered how sweet they were…and how most of them scratched the roof of my mouth. That said, despite the rock-like texture and ridiculously bright...

Happy Birthday, Maricel!!!!!!
More birthday wishes from NoeyCakes go out to one of my best gals, Maricel. (Just as a warning, you’ll be seeing a lot of birthday cupcakes/cake pops within the next month or so….I know an obnoxious number of Leos and Virgos)  The celebration kicked off with confetti, cake pops, tulle, cupcakes and of course, Hello Kitty: Yes, I made the cake pops.  And yes, I made the box....

Happy Birthday from NoeyCakes!!
This past week, I had the great honor of having my cupcakes served at the mini birthday celebration for Jason Mattick!  For those of you who love great food, he is the exceptionally talented Executive Chef at Milo & Olive.  The kitchen staff was able to find a brief 2 minutes to sing happy birthday, but I’m happy to report that the Mocha cupcakes were the dessert of choice:

Unique LA Summer Show Recap
It’s been about 2 weeks since NoeyCakes took part in Unique LA’s Summer Show at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica.  I’ve never had to make so many cupcakes at one time, but I’m fortunate for the opportunity to showcase what I can do at such an amazing event!  I definitely NEVER could have done it without help.  I’d like to thank my mama, Alex Davis, Kendrah McKay,...

Cookies N Cream and UNIQUE LA!!!!!!
So this week’s newest cupcake was inspired by one of my best girlfriends, Taraneh.  Her favorite candy bar is Hershey’s Cookies N Cream so I decided to run with it. I present to you, the “Cookies N Cream” cupcake: From the plate up, an Oreo Cookie is baked into the bottom of white chocolate cake infused with Weihenstephan Original Lager (try saying that 5 times fast) ...

NoeyCakes is being featured at The Library...
In case you haven’t heard, NoeyCakes is now being served at the Library Alehouse on Main Street in Santa Monica!  Typically, the wonderful patrons fill up on all that great craft beer and food, but I’m happy to report that in their first week, we sold through 5 dozen.  This is a pretty big feat for a restaurant that isn’t really known for its desserts :) (Please excuse me while I...

The Great Hambino and The Noe-Stess
This past week was one of the slowest in a quite a while.  SUH.  LOW.  My friend and I disappointed ourselves at least twice because we thought a non-Friday day was Friday.   So as the REAL Friday approached, I wanted to do it up big and make a dessert duo to celebrate that the weekend FINALLY arrived. First on the list, the Noe-stess cupcake (naming credit goes to Mike Gammarino—muchas gracias,...

Now You Can EAT Your Sparkling Wine
Last week, I had the great pleasure of being asked to make Bartenura Moscato Rosé cupcakes for an event thrown by Xomad.com.  I suggested using the sparkling wine in the actual recipe, so I wanted to integrate it in a subtle and complimentary fashion.  Since this is a dessert wine, it is best paired with savory foods, such as cheese and I didn’t want the sweetness to steal the show.  I...

Seasonal Schmeasonal
First of all, this is about the general reaction I receive from my girlfriends when I bring treats for Sugar Fix Friday at work: But a few  minutes later, it’s more like this: Now, even though May is approaching, I wanted to experiment a  bit more with pumpkin.  What?  November is whenever I want it to be.  Get it straight.   So, I decided to make a pumpkin doughnut muffin with a TCHO...

You look like a deranged Easter Bunny.
“He looks like a pink nightmare.”  Definitely not the words I had in mind when I thought of all the cute Easter bunny cake pops I was going to create.    I pictured adorable, sweet bunnies.  Instead…*sigh* I came up with bunnies that make me feel like this:   I’m sure the suspense is killing you, so here they are:   Please note, this is what happens when you don’t...

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies Aren't Thaaaaaaaaat Bad for...
While my girlfriends are trying to stick to their diets as Coachella approaches, I landed on making oatmeal raisin cookies this week.  They’re totally nutritious, right?  I mean, there’s oatmeal and raisins and ya know, oatmeal.  They’re healthy-ish.    Okay, okay.  They’re less bad for you.   Anyways, I figure they’re a great way to ease into the...

Drunken Hi-Hats
As my dear friend, Jon’s birthday approaches, I knew I had to create a cupcake with booze.  Lots and lots of booze.  But the classy kind.  Hence, the use of the word, “booze.”  His birthday presents the perfect opportunity to try out a new recipe. That’s right.  Your birthdays are all just an excuse to try out new spells cupcakes. I went with a chocolate stout cupcake made with...

When life gives you lemons...
If someone had to describe the majority of people’s reactions to lemon desserts, I’d say Kunu almost had it right: “When life gives you lemons, just say, ‘Eff the lemons,’ and bail.”  Now, most may turn their noses up at lemon and go straight for chocolate, but tell ya what?  If it’s done right, you’ll be a lemon lover for life.  I, personally,...

Oreos Are Getting Old
For those of you who don’t know, tomorrow, March 6th, 2012 is the Oreo cookie’s 100th birthday.  As much as I have enjoyed this cookie in the past, I’ve never been a fan of the cookie as a whole.  I like the cookies, but I scrape off the cream.  I know, I know.  The cream is everyone’s favorite, but “not this little black duck,” as my friend, Kendrah would say....

Valentines Day is Whenever I Want It to Be. ...
With it being the month of February and all, this kitchen hasn’t really been able to stop and take a breather.  Birthday orders, Valentine’s Day orders, Just-Because cupcakes….*sigh*  I love it though.  It’s a nice distraction.  One of my very dear friends, Taraneh aka “My Idea Machine,” was going to visit her boyfriend in Vegas the weekend before...

I will tell you what you are NOT giving up for...
So for those of you who are recovering from Mardis Gras or you just gave up sweets for Lent, I thought I’d provide you with some treats to really allow that regret set in.  To be perfectly honest, I had no clue that February 21st was Mardis Gras.  I just saw a cool mask at Cost Plus and theeeeeeeeen saw that it was Mardis Gras…see what a little glitter and colorful feathers can do?...

I Put the Angry in Angry Birds
So one thing to know about me is that I don’t back down from a challenge, especially when it comes to dessert.  If you ask me if I can make XYZ out of cake or a cake pop shaped like LMNOP, the answer will be, “yes” followed by, “Fuck.  Can I make that???”———————Okay, that’s not completely true because I would never agree...

Oh, Super Bowl 46, thank you for giving me another excuse to make dessert.   From start to finish, my house was filled with great company and delicious bites: Homemade pretzel rods… Fried chicken wings Sriracha honey hot wings Okay, okay, there was plenty more, but this is all about dessert.  Let’s start with the fleur de sel chocolate chip cookie—crispy edges with a...

WELL IF CARTOON CHILDREN LOVE IT, IT MUST BE GOOD?...
Since I received such a great reaction from the Berry’d Treasure cupcakes with raspberries, I decided to keep going.  I wanted to find a new way to integrate them into something I haven’t tried before, so I landed on pop-tarts.  I’m extremely proud to say that my pop tarts contain 100% real fruit from the Santa Monica Farmer’s Market, unlike store-bought pop tarts that contain 2% or less.  It’s...

SNOZBERRIES? WHOEVER HEARD OF A SNOZBERRY? GIVE US...
I needed to put that seasonal fruit to good use and I couldn’t think of one to tuck away in a new cupcake.  Unfortunately, snozberries aren’t in season. I decided to go with raspberries.  Luckily, the month of December contained a decent handful of friends’ birthdays and I had to share one of my newest combinations: “Berry’d Treasure” From the plate up, graham cracker crust, coffee-infused...

YES, YOU CAN EAT THE ORNAMENTS.
“Deck the horrs with boughs of horry!  Fa ra ra ra raaaaaa ra raa raaaa raaaaaaaa!”  For Christmas, I originally wanted a Red Ryder carbine action two-hundred shot range model air rifle, but I had to settle for providing pretty holiday goodies for my family.  I decided to make chocolate cake pop ornaments and cupcakes…among other things which I was too tired to photograph…I know, I’m getting...

IS THAT AN EFFING MOUSTACHE CAKE POP? DAMN...
I’m not a hipster in the least, buuuuuut, occasionally I do rather enjoy wearing pants so tight that I can be mistaken for a bobsled racer, not washing my hair for a week, and sporting a t-shirt that says, “I had swag back when it was called, “personality.” No. Not really.  Anyways, in the spirit of Movember I made moustache cake pops.  Now, let me just tell you, these were made at the request...

SERIOUSLY. DON’T SAY “GOBBLE GOBBLE” TO ME.
I’m a child of the 90’s and one of my favorite movies growing up was Addams Family Values.  My favorite scene was when Wednesday and Pugsley were forcibly sent to Camp Chippewa by the evil nanny, Debbie and both of them were cast in the summer’s end play.  One of the camp directors, Dave Granger, decided to write it about the first Thanksgiving and who better to cast as the turkey than rotund...

CAKE POPS WITH SIS…
As Halloween approaches, I can hardly contain my excitement thinking about all of the ghoulish delights and creepy confections that I’m going to be making this month.  Then, I was given wonderful news that my little sister was going to be visiting this week!  A few days before her arrival, my dad sends me a text message containing a picture of a Halloween cake pop she wants me to make for her: I...

NOEYCAKES FEATURED ON THE ME SO HUNGRY FOOD TRUCK

PRINCESS PEACH
I like to take advantage of as much seasonal fruit as possible, so I knew peaches were a no-brainer.  Peach cobbler has to be one of my all time favorite desserts and I wanted to pack all those flavors and textures into a cupcake…I’m telling you, by the time I get to the end of my menu of cupcakes, I plan on packing one full of pizza, lasagna, tacos, candy, pie, chocolate, cookies…ummm, if I...

LET’S GO COCOA-NUTS!!
Los Angeles is home to so many  people and things that I love, but this past weekend my cupcakes and I made a little journey to San Diego to celebrate the birthday of my very dear friend, Heather.  I asked her boyfriend what kind of cupcake she would like and he said, “You know the girl loves chocolate……and booze.”  In the whirlwind that is my life, I somehow left out the booze....

Girly Shmirly.
Sugar and spice…pink glitter and cupcakes…that’s what my bff, Bekah is made of :)  As another year passes by, I celebrated Miss Bekah’s “21st” birthday.  Her birthday is one of my favorite occasions to bake for because I get to go all out.  I actually meant all that “sugar ‘n spice glitter” stuff; she’s one of the sweetest people I know.  That being said, I made a “Bekah” cupcake called “Skip to...

“I SOLEMNLY SWEAR THAT I AM UP TO NO GOOD…”
Harry Potter has now come to an end…theatres were bursting at the seams last night as countless fans arrived for midnight and 3AM showings of The Deathly Hallows: Part II.  Before heading to the premiere full of muggles, members of Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff, Death Eaters, house elves, and members of The Order, I decided take some Harry Potter inspiration to the kitchen.  I...

Cuckoo for Coconut, Kahlua, Smoked Chocolate and...
As I’m nearing the end of designing my menu, I have created a couple of new cupcakes–one of which has become a new favorite to hang my hat on. Let’s start with the newest star, “Cocoa Smoke.” From the ground up, the cupcake begins with a chocolate cookie crust, seasoned with Salish smoked salt and dark cocoa sugar from the Spice Station in Santa Monica. Next, we have a rich, chocolate cake with...

God Save The King
This past weekend, one of my best friends, Bryan King graduated from Pepperdine School of Law so I decided to make some treasures for friends and family to enjoy at the celebration dinner. I chose to spruce up the much-loved “Elvis” cupcake for the occasion and since I received such great reviews, the changes are here to stay. Affectionately renamed after Mr. Bryan King and in an effort to stay...

Not-So-Thin-Mint Cupcakes
There’s just something so special about the taste of a good ‘ol Girl Scout Thin Mint cookie. As much as I would curse the days when those little darlings would knock on my door and bring me boxes of guilt…minty, chocolate-y guilt, I wanted to put that sinful treat into a cupcake…crunchy cookie and all. We are proud to announce that this cupcake has earned itself a permanent spot on our menu. (I...
